A chilling video has emerged showing a Turkish man leading his pregnant wife to the edge of a cliff to pose for selfies before he allegedly shoved her to her death to cash in on her life insurance, according to a report.
Hakan Aysal is accused of murdering his 32-year-old wife, Semra Aysal, and their unborn baby during a vacation in Butterfly Valley in Mugla, Turkey, in June 2018.
A tourist who said he saw Hakan acting strangely decided to shoot a video of the couple moments before the fatal plunge, according to The Sun, which posted the footage.
The clip shows Hakan holding Semra’s hand as he leads her to a scenic spot on an outcropping facing the Mediterranean.
Authorities are using the video in their investigation, the news outlet reported.
After Semra’s death, the husband tried to collect on a life insurance policy he took out for her worth 400,000 Turkish lira, or about $57,000. But he was denied due to the police investigation.
Prosecutors charge the murder wasn’t an “accident” and was premeditated because he wanted her money.
Semra’s brother, Naim Yolcu, said his brother-in-law didn’t appear to show any emotion after his wife died.
“When we went to the Forensic Medicine Institute to get the body, Hakan was sitting in the car,” recalled Yoluc during a video interview in court. “My family and I were destroyed, but Hakan did not even appear sad.”
Asked about the suspicious insurance premiums, Aysal said: “I have been interested in extreme sports since 2014 — parachute, bungee jumping, rafting. That is why I had life insurance before I got married,” The Sun reported.
And when asked about the policy stating that he was the heir in case of her death, he said a banker had arranged the paperwork.
“I just brought it to my wife to get it signed. I was not aware that there was such an article,” Aysal said, referring to the clause.
“After taking a photo, my wife put the phone in her bag. Later she asked me to give her the phone. I got up and then heard my wife scream behind me when I walked a few steps away to get the phone from her bag,” he said, according to the outlet.
“When I turned back, she was not there. I did not push my wife,” he added.
