Trump declares Dec. 5 national day of mourning for George H.W. Bush

Wednesday will be a national day of mourning for former President George H.W. Bush, President Trump declared Saturday.

Trump was set to call the president’s son George W. Bush, the 43rd president, to offer condolences, press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said.

A state funeral at the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C., is being arranged, Sanders said, noting that Trump and his wife Melania will both attend.

Earlier, Trump tweeted a tribute to Bush’s “long, successful and beautiful life.”

“He was a truly wonderful man and will be missed by all!” he posted.

He also canceled a planned press conference in Buenos Aires, the site of the G-20 summit, “out of respect for the Bush Family and former President George H.W. Bush”
