Thug, 56, who battered great-grandad, 80, unconscious in road rage attack is jailed for 16 months

A THUG who battered a great-grandad in a brutal road attack has been caged.

Paul Eva, 80, a retired bricklayer, was chased knocked unconscious by John Dugdale, 56, in Penge, South East London.

The great-grandfather was crossing the road with his wife when he had a "verbal altercation" with Dugdale.

The thug then got out of his car, ran after the pensioner and begun his attack, which left Eva with broken bones.

CCTV footage of the attack was released to catch the cruel driver.

Mr Eva suffered serious injuries, including a broken wrist, jaw, nose and cheekbone in the attack.

Dugdale, who handed himself in to the police a month after the attack, pleaded guilty at Croydon Crown Court this morning.

The 56-year-old was sentenced for causing grievous bodily harm.

Judge Elizabeth Lowe told Dugdale that his attack on the pensioner was a "cowardly act."

She told the thug: "You were obviously intent on violence against him from the moment you left your car."

Dugdale mouthed "love you" to his family members in the courtroom after they broke down in tears following the sentence.

The man, who is unemployed, already had a previous conviction for possession of an offensive weapon after he threatened an Asda delivery driver with a rounders bat outside his home in Croydon, south London, in January 2016.

He told police he "reacted like an idiot" when he jumped out of his car to start on the 80-year-old.

Mr Eva had sworn after nearly being struck by the car Dugdale was driving.
