Theresa May’s African boogies have made her a dancing icon as 5,000 people sign up to event to learn the Prime Minister’s moves

A Facebook page for the “Learn to Dance Like Theresa May Day” in Liverpool has proved wildly popular after coverage of her trade trip last week was dominated by her awkward jiving.

It even has a guide so you can emulate the dance, with mocking suggestions such as getting into the “T-Rex” pose and then swinging your arms “in a jerky motion as if trying to prove to your parents you are sober”.

Similar events have been arranged in other cities for the same day, although it is unclear how many people are actually planning on attending.

The posts also offer handy instructions so people can perfect the moves showcased by Mrs May at home too.

It suggests people: “Start walking forward in a slow, mechanical fashion out of time to the music and with arms still positioned like the large dinosaur, but with torso waving like a tree in a mild breeze.”

The PM sparked this situation when she was filmed joining in a dance with a group of schoolchildren in Cape Town last week.

And when she left South Africa for Nairobi she took her dancing shoes with her, and was seen getting very involved with a group of Kenyan scouts.

Her bizarre dancing was compared to the Inbetweeners and footballer Peter Crouch, famous for his robot celebration.

The former England star mocked her “picking apples” routine, adding: “She's going straight through my repertoire on this trip."
