Theresa May shows unseen funny side as she appears in This Morning comedy skit with Phillip Schofield

The PM filmed the light-hearted clip as part of the ITV show’s 30th birthday celebrations.

Mrs May was seen ordering the Red Arrows to help host Phillip Schofield get to the studio on time after he supposedly got stuck in traffic on his way to work.

In the footage, the PM phones Mr Schofield from her desk in 10 Downing Street.

The panicked host says: “Prime Minister – I don’t think I can make it.”

Mrs May replies: “Goodness me! Not on This Morning’s 30th birthday – you absolutely have to be there.”

She then tells him to seek out the Red Arrows to provide a way out of the traffic jam.

And she adds: “Remember Phillip – the nation’s going to be watching. Good luck.”

Mr Schofield is then seen skydiving into the studio as the conclusion of the jokey skit, which features a number of other big names.

Mrs May is not known for making jokes in public.

But she’s recently been on a mission to show her lighter side in a bid to throw of her reputation for being humourless.

The PM was filmed dancing with schoolchildren – but quipped that she’s unlikely to end up appearing on Strictly in future.
