Teacher in Lindsay, Ont., accused of assaulting elementary school student

A teacher in Lindsay, Ont., has been charged with assault involving a student.

Kawartha Lakes Police Service say last Friday, they received a report of an alleged assault which occurred on Thursday at King Albert Public Schoo in Lindsay. The school on Glenelg Street West serves students from kindergarten to Grade 6.

Police investigated and charged a female teacher with one count of assault.

No other details were provided on the alleged incident.

Police say the alleged victim, a student at the school, did not suffer any physical injuries. No details on the student were provided.

“City of Kawartha Lakes Police Service believe this was an isolated incident,” stated Sgt. Dave Murtha on Wednesday afternoon.

The accused — whose name was not released — is scheduled to appear in court in Lindsay on March 7.

In an email to CHEX News, the Trillium Lakelands District School Board stated “safety and well-being of all our students is always our first priority.”

“Student safety has been addressed by relocating the teacher in question and ensuring the person is not currently in a position of trust or authority,” the board stated.

The board says no other details will be shared in order to protect the privacy of both the accused and the student.
