Sweet moment neglected dog called Sugar is transformed when rescuers shave off his dreadlocked coat and give him a much-needed shower

  • Sugar, ten, was rescued after his owner said she couldn’t look after him anymore 
  • The shaggy dog’s fur was matted and he was weak and in a neglected state 
  • Watchdog Thailand Foundation washed him and a volunteer gave him a haircut 

Animal rescuers have saved a dog with fur so matted it was dreadlocked from a life of neglect in Thailand and now plan to find him a forever home.  

Volunteers from Watchdog Thailand Foundation were alerted to the mistreated pooch named Sugar inside an rundown house in Bangkok.

They found the brown dog in a terrible state walking around the yard. Sugar, who is ten, was weak and neglected and his owner admitted the family was unable to look after him.  

The dog, named Sugar, was in a horrifically neglected state with his owner admitting she couldn’t look after him any more

Animal volunteers from Watchdog Thailand Foundation took the ten-year-old to the shelter where they washed him and cut his matted fur

She was failing to provide appropriate food and living conditions for Sugar, which is against Thailand’s animal welfare law.

The owner agreed to hand over Sugar on May 28 and the following day he was taken to a temporary shelter belonging to the foundation, where his transformation began. 

Dog groomer Kriangkrai Thawakorn volunteered to shave and cut Sugar’s messy, matted fur to make him more healthy and comfortable.

Staff later took Sugar for a shower and checked him over before sending him to an animal hospital for a further physical examination.

He was completely transformed after his shave and haircut and his rescuers hope he’ll find a new home soon

Dog groomer Kriangkrai Thawakorn volunteered to shave and cut Sugar’s fur and make him more comfortable

 A spokesperson of Watchdog Thailand Foundation said: ‘Sugar is still fatigued and weak but we’ll keep looking after him and provide him food and medicine until he is fully recovered. 

‘He’s a lot more handsome and healthy now he’s had a good hair cut.

‘We are now searching for a new owner for him who is ready to love and take care of him.’
