Sunshine predicted for Remembrance Day services on Sunday

Remembrance Day is set to be a sunny one as Brits prepare to pay their respects on Sunday.

The country is set to finally enjoy some dry and bright weather after being battered by days of heavy rain and gales.

According to the Met Office, the rest of this evening will be a wet one, but the sunshine will come just in time for Armistice Day.

As well as sunshine for most of the UK, temperatures are set to be higher than average for this time of year.

Met Office Meteorologist Sophie Yeomans said: "It’s been a rainy one today, with some places experiencing the odd rumble of thunder and lightning strike.

"Most of the showers will die out throughout the night into the dawn.

"Early on a band of heavy showers will be heading through the south west of England and Wales.

"The band of rain will then head northeastwards towards Lincolnshire and Yorkshire.

"Going into Sunday, it will be a day of sunshine and showers – but more of a scattering.

"You’ll be unlucky to come across a shower, most of the country will be treated to sunny spells.

"Highs of 14C are expected in the south, further northwest 11C with parts of Scotland only reaching 9C."

Starting the ceremonies, Prince Harry laid the first cross of remembrance at Westminster Abbey on Thursday.

He honoured the two minute silence that was held after the Last Post at the Abbey’s Field of Remberance.

Dressed in uniform, the Duke of Sussex saluted in front of the crowd. His wife, Meghan, and the Duchess of Cambridge will be attending three remembrance day engagements this weekend.
