A couple were left stunned after they discovered a badger stuck in the bottom of their bin as they took the rubbish out.

RSPCA officer Clara Scully was called to a home in Crewkerne, Somerset, yesterday morning to rescue the badger.

Clara said: ‘The bin was in the couple’s garden.

‘I think the couple had quite the fright when they peered in and saw him staring back up at them, covered in waste.’

Clara took the badger to RSPCA West Hatch Wildlife Centre – 20 miles away in Taunton – to be assessed and prepared for release.

The amusing rescue comes three weeks after an RSPCA officer was called to a badger stuck in a tree.

The badger was spotted on August in Harefield, London, with his front leg wedged between two branches of a plum tree.
