Special weather statement warns of high winds for Waterloo region, Guelph area

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for Waterloo region and the Guelph area and a blowing snow advisory for the northern areas of Wellington County.

The agency warns that winds will be strong enough to cause tree damage and power outages.

The winds, which will gust as high as 80 km/h, are expected to ease Friday afternoon.

Environment Canada says people travelling through northern sections of Wellington County, including Mount Forest and Arthur, should expect poor visibility due to snow and blowing snow.

Winds gusting up 80 km/h and sudden near-zero visibility could continue right into Saturday morning.

The agency warns that driving could be hazardous; proceed with caution while keeping a close eye on taillights in front of you.
