Shocking footage shows driver 'deliberately mowing down crowd like skittles' in Lawless London

People could be heard screaming as the car was filmed repeatedly accelerating at groups of people in a Romford street over the weekend.

In the terrifying footage, the car can be seen revving its engine as people walk past.

It then turns quickly to the right, with bystanders sent scattering as the car narrowly misses them.

But the rampage isn't over yet, with the car then swerving down the street – with pedestrians forced to fling themselves out of the way.

The car appears to be badly damaged on one side during the attack.

A Romford local later claimed she had found the battered car – just 10 minutes away from where the incident was filmed.

Shannon Quartermaine told The Sun Online she had been leaving her Romford home when she spotted a car with similar damage to it this morning.

She said: "I examined the cars marks and noticed the colour difference from the front and back wheel, exactly the same as the video.

"The car was sat with a shattered front window, dented side and the front passenger window down."

It is not clear just what sparked the apparent targeted attack.

It is believed the incident unfolded about 3am on Sunday, August 19, on Chandlers Way in Romford.

Met Police have confirmed they are called to the discovery of a damaged grey Ford Focus this morning.

A spokesperson said: "Officers are aware of footage circulated on social media of an incident consistent with attempted grievous bodily harm, believed to have taken place in Romford.

"The footage is in the process of being reviewed and enquiries are underway to establish whether the vehicle is linked to the incident. No allegations have been received at this time.

"No arrests, enquiries continue."

Since the footage was shared online, it has sparked a furious reaction from viewers.

One wrote: "What is this world becoming.

"Absolutely no respect for the law or others I honestly feel for the next generation of kids."

Another added: "People are crazy."
