Shameless Labour MP blocked bill that would make her pay market rent as a high earner living in social housing

In three votes in 2015 and 2016, Labour’s Shadow Development Secretary Kate Osamor blocked government proposals that would have seen her pay market rent.

The plans classed high earners as households where two adults earn £20,000 each or more. The Edmonton MP, 50, and her convicted drug-dealer son Ishmael, 29, live in a £750,000 social housing pad in Tottenham, North London — despite earning a joint £130,000.

Ms Osamor, paid £77,000 a year, also blocked plans for funding to help social housing tenants to access right-to-buy schemes.

Tory MP Chris Philp said: “As usual with Labour, it’s a case of do as we say, not as we do.

“It’s staggering that with a salary of over £75,000, Kate Osamor is taking up social housing when her own constituents are on waiting lists.”

Pads for poor call

Tory Kevin Hollinrake said: “This housing should be set aside for the most in need.

“There should be a process in place that if you do reach a salary threshold and you’re in social housing that’s in short supply, it should be given to people on the lowest incomes.

“We’ve got to be looking to the interests of others.”

Ms Osamor’s office declined to comment.
