Jared O’Mara MP was branded a ‘selfish, degenerate p***k’ by one of his staff members on his official Twitter account

The disgraced former Labour MP for Sheffield Hallam, who left the party over offensive tweets sent before he entered politics, is preparing to make a joint statement online with the ex-staffer who unleashed a twitter rant on him two days ago.

The chief of staff spin branded his boss a ‘selfish, degenerate p***k’ in an explosive Twitter resignation posted on the MP’s official account.

Gareth Arnold, who describes himself as a long-time friend of Sheffield Hallam MP Jared O’Mara and has been his chief of staff for the last eight weeks, accused the Parliamentarian of ‘inexcusable contempt for the people who voted you in’ and called for a by-election.

Momentum-backed O’Mara, 37, unseated Lib Dem leader Sir Nick Clegg in the 2017 election.

But he was suspended by Labour within weeks of his election when past tweets surfaced in which he invited the band Girls Aloud to an orgy and made sick a joke about musician Jamie Cullum being ‘sodomised to death’.

The MP, who did not respond to requests to comment on the story on Tuesday and Wednesday and was not at any of his known addresses, is preparing to make a joint statement

Labour nonetheless readmitted the disgraced MP when his suspension expired in July 2018 – only to see him resign from the party in a fit of pique about the suspension process a couple of weeks later.

Last night in a jaw-dropping twitter thread former aide Arnold unleashed a sensational rant against a man he once called a friend.

He wrote: ‘Jared, you are the most disgustingly morally bankrupt person I have ever had the displeasure of working with.

In the explosive Twitter rant, the former employee branded O’Mara a ‘morally bankrupt person’ who didn’t ‘care about anyone’ but himself

The staffer, Gareth Arnold, then signed off the rant with his own Twitter account, writing: ‘Consider this my resignation. Thanks’

‘You do not care about your constituents. You do not care about anyone but yourself.

‘I cannot and will not defend you and your vile, inexcusable contempt for the people who voted you in. You selfish, degenerate p***k.

‘My fear is that now (as I quit) the rest of the staff will leave and once again you will close your office and stop helping anyone but still take your wages until you have the decency to call a byelection.

‘Leaving constituents desperate for representation again. No matter if they are having their homes taken away, their liberties disgraced or being deported because of your inaction.

‘Sheffield Hallam deserves so much better than you. You have wasted opportunities which people dare not to even dream of.’

The former aide tagged his own Twitter account as he signed off the rant, writing: ‘Consider this my resignation. Thanks Gareth Arnold.’

Jared O’Mara was born in Sheffield in 1981. He has cerebral palsy and is registered disabled.

He studied journalism at university and prior to entering politics was a trustee of a Sheffield based disability charity and a school governor. He stood as a Labour candidate in council elections.

In 2017 he was made prospective parliamentary candidate in Nick Clegg’s seat of Sheffield Hallam by Labour’s National Executive committee, in a move which outraged many in the local party.

He won the seat in a shock upset.

But he was the last MP in the 2017 intake to make a maiden speech and his attendance in Westminister debates is amongst the lowest in Parliament.

He was suspended in July 2017 when sexist and homophobic tweets posted as a 23-year-old surfaced.

He was reinstated in July of the following year but resigned the whip nine days later.

Mr O’Mara could not be reached for comment.

After the tweets went viral lats night, Mr Arnold took to his own twitter account to make a series of even more startling accusations about the MP, and Birmingham Yardley MP Jess Phillips said O’Mara was ‘an awful MP’ but said he ‘deserved help’.

Mr Arnold, a blogger who rose to prominence in 2014 for his online trolling of the far-right political party Britain First, also ripped into the MP in a series of scathing tweets from his own account.

Mr Arnold wrote: ‘I am pretty sure Jared is asleep because he hasn’t been in for a few weeks and hadn’t replied to my WhatsApp… oh crumbs.’

He added: ‘He has just messaged me and he pays that little attention to anything that he’s not even seen the tweet all of his constituents have. Unbelievable.’

But as his tweets started to be shared thousands of times he appeared to question his actions.

He wrote: ‘All I want is for Sheffield Hallam to have an MP that cares about them.

‘Was it the best way to go about it? Well, I’ll find out. Did I exhaust every single avenue possible before I did it? Yes, for many weeks. It’s not fair on the people who have serious casework who need help and it’s not fair on Sheffield Hallam.’

Blogger Gareth Arnold rose to prominence in 2014 for his online trolling of the far-right political party Britain First. He unleashed the explosive rant against his former boss tonight

In 2014, Mr Arnold created a social media account to parody Britain First, called Britain Furst. It was responsible for mass trolling covered by worldwide news media.

The Twitter rant comes just months after O’Mara shut his constituency office when all his staff either resigned or were sacked.

O’Mara announced in April that he was having a ‘temporary pause’ in handling casework until he hired new staff and moved into a new office.

He was unable to hold constituency surgeries or respond to phone calls or correspondence for around four weeks, sources said.

Furious constituents called for the MP to ‘do the decent thing’ and resign, claiming he is not properly representing them.

He has faced mounting pressure in recent months after failing to vote in key Brexit amendments and labelling his critics ‘football hooligans who smell of processed meat’.

Mr O’Mara said last year he was ‘deeply ashamed’ of the sexist and homophobic comments made in his early 20s.

O’Mara was backed by Momentum, the grassroots activist group set up to elect keep Mr Corbyn in power, during the 2017 election which saw him defeat Sir Nick Clegg

Girls Aloud member Sarah Harding branded the posts ‘vile and obscene’ when they resurfaced.

She said at the time: ‘Whether he made them yesterday or several years ago, the fact remains they were made by a person who is now in high office.

‘When he was selected as a prospective parliamentary candidate how on earth did this not come up?

‘Was he not vetted? Did he really think he would get away with it?

Theresa May condemned O’Mara over his sexist comments and said women must be ‘given the respect they deserve’.

Asked about the comments during PMQs in the Commons, she said: ‘All of us in this House should have due care and attention to the way in which we refer to other people and should show women in public life the respect that they deserve.’

Labour readmitted O’Mara to the party in July 2018 despite the controversy.
