A schoolgirl wrote a disturbing note about dying hours before she was choked to death by her ‘jilted lover.’
The devastating message, which said she "wished she was dead", was found in her killer’s home and played a crucial part in jailing him for life.
The body of studious and "bright" 17-year-old Shreya Sharma, from Delhi, was found by residents on a narrow lane near her home on August 16 last year, after her parents reported her missing.
This week, a judge ruled that she died at the hands of "cold-blooded murderer" Sarthak Kapoor, who was a school pal and 19 at the time.
He will now spend the rest of his life behind bars.
A court heard how Kapoor had made multiple threats to Shreya, attacked and harassed her, but when he didn’t succeed in getting her back, he "eliminated her."
According to The Indian Express , the four-page poem was sent for forensic analysis and a handwriting expert confirmed it was Shreya’s writing.
Part of it read: “I wish I were dead, every time I close my eyes, I see dark paradise.
"I am tired of being here, suppressed by my own fears… We went from playing with our toys to become toys ourselves. So boys will be boys and we women will never tell.”
Police say Shreya had gone to meet Kapoor at his home on the day of her death to give him a copy of the poem, which she had also posted online.

He later reportedly confessed to his crime and took police to where he had abandoned Shreya’s body.
The court added: "It was a well-planned, cold-blooded murder.
"He communicated to her on Instagram his intentions to kill her and executed the same as a professional in a cold-blooded manner without using a weapon."
CCTV also showed her walking with him hours before her body was found.
Judge Virender Kumar Bansal, in an earlier hearing, said: “It is a case of jilted lover who wanted the deceased back at any cost.
"He applied all tactics, extended threats, but when he did not succeed in getting her back, eliminated her.”
