School texts 1,500 parents telling them their kids are missing due to messenger glitch

The text was sent before classes started on Thursday and said: “Your child is absent from school today. Please contact us to regulate the matter.”

Predictably, the message caused serious concern among parents who had just sent their children off to school for the day.

The school was quickly overwhelmed with calls from the parents of 1,500 students at Lycee Alexis-Monteil high school in Rodez, South East France.

The text was only meant to be sent to one student, but it went to 2,000 parents instead.

The school has not said who was responsible for the mistake.

The principal of the high school only said it was a human error.

He also joked about knowing that the system is effective.

Jean-Paul Serieys said: “It is human error. This incident shows us that the warning system works very well!”

Rodez is small city in the Occitanie region in the south of France.
