Rob Lowe had been on doomed Santa Cruz diving boat ‘many times’

Actor Rob Lowe said the horrific Santa Cruz boat fire hit painfully close to home because he has been on the doomed diving boat “many times.”

“My heart breaks for those onboard the Conception,” the 55-year-old star wrote on Twitter about the fire on Monday that is believed to have killed all 34 people trapped below deck. “An unspeakable horror on a boat I’ve been on many times. My prayers and thoughts are with the families.”

The “Parks and Recreation” star’s words were soon welcomed by loved ones of some of the dead and missing.

“Thank You for your support,” replied Brett Harmeling, whose marine biologist sister, Kristy Finstad, had chartered Conception for its deadly trip.

“My family is devastated,” he added.

Christine Marie Chen also replied with thanks, saying, “A couple of girls from my children’s school were onboard and are still among the missing. Your thoughts and prayers mean so much. Thank you!”

The dive boat Conception became fully engulfed in flames in the early hours while on a recreational scuba diving trip as passengers slept below deck off Santa Cruz Island near Santa Barbara.

As of early Tuesday, 25 bodies had been recovered and nine were still missing.
