The Virgin branded sweater gifted to Princess Diana by Sir Richard Branson is set to fetch £4,000 at auction.

Princess Diana was repeatedly photographed in the blue baggy jumper after making it a habit to always wear it to the gym – to annoy paparazzi looking to get a fresh shot of the papers’ favourite.

Frustrated photographers struggled to sell the photos of the princess taken outside the Harbour Club in Chelsea after they appeared to be the same day-after-day.

The well-used sweater was then gifted by Diana to her much adored trainer Jenni Rivett, who trained the Princess for seven years.

She said: ‘She [Diana] felt there were more important issues than her gym attire.

‘A few months before her untimely death she called me to say she had left a few sweatshirts for me. Amongst them, this one—which I have now decided to part with.’

The 90s polyester sweatshirt featuring Virgin Airlines branding ‘the flying lady’, is to be auctioned by RR Auctions in Boston, US.

A note from Diana to Jenni will accompany the sweater, along with a thank you card from the trainer who says she use the money to ‘help a Malawian family, which I know Diana would be happy about.’

The Princess of Wales departs from her morning gym session November 20, 1995, on the day the BBC will broadcast a television interview with the Princess in a ‘Panorama’ documentary
