Prince Charles’s fears for Meghan and Harry’s unborn baby in polluted planet

Prince Charles has urged the world to take action now to stop polluting the planet with plastic.

He made his plea for a better world not just for his own grandchildren but for youngsters everywhere.

Charles, on a nine-day tour of West Africa with the Duchess of Cornwall, spoke at a meeting of officials and business leaders in Accra, Ghana.

With son Prince Harry and wife the Duchess of Sussex due to have their first baby in the spring, Charles said: “I am about to have another grandchild.

“It does seem to me insanity if we are going to bequeath this completely polluted, damaged and destroyed world to them. All grandchildren deserve a better future.”

Charles, already a grandad of three, has campaigned on plastics and other environmental issues “since 1970”.

But it seems only now that the rest of the developed world is sharing his concerns over sea contamination.

The Prince claimed that “eight million tonnes of plastic enter the ocean every year” and that soon there will be “one tonne of plastic for every three tonnes of fish in the sea”.

He said: “Surely, finding an approach to protect and conserve the ocean is a really urgent priority.”

Charles, who was presented with a portrait of himself made from recyclable materials, added: “The legacy of plastic is now on the global agenda.

“A solution is achievable and simply has to be done for all our sakes.”
