Prince Andrew makes awkward comment about Harry ahead of Eugenie’s wedding

Prince Andrew made a comment in an interview ahead of daughter Princess Eugenie’s wedding this morning which could be conceived as offensive by his nephew, Prince Harry .

In an interview screened on This Morning, Prince Andrew insisted Eugenie’s wedding is NOT like Harry and Meghan’s – despite being held in the exact same chapel just five months apart.

Both couples chose to tie the knot in St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle.

The Duke of York seemingly couldn’t even bring himself to say Harry and Meghan’s names, saying: "It will NOT be the same as the previous one that was held in May. This is not a public wedding, this is meant to be a family wedding

"There’ll be a few more people than most people have. There are a few more than Harry had, but that’s just the nature of Eugenie and Jack – they’ve got so many friends that they need a church of that size to fit them all in."

Ouch. Don’t worry, Harry. We know you’ve got lots of friends too.

Eugenie and Jack are pulling in extra chairs to squeeze 850 people into the chapel – which is only meant to hold 800.

In contrast, Harry and Meghan had extra space with only 600 guests. (We say "only" – 600 is A LOT of wedding guests when most people have around one sixth of that number).

One Twitter user said of the weddings: "So seems like a competition for him."

Another wrote: "Throwing some shade there Duke" while one commented: "Hum! So Harry have (sic) not got so many friends."

One commented that he was "throwing shade all over the place".

The Duke of York mustn’t have realised how the comment could have come across.

Prince Andrew also revealed how it wasn’t necessarily Eugenie and Jack’s decision to hold the wedding at the same venue as Harry and Meghan.

He explained how the Queen has the final say on matters, commenting: "It was what I was told as to where it was going to take place. The Queen very firmly said, ‘no, no, St George’s is where you’re having the wedding’."

Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank will marry today in a service beginning at 11am.

Among the celebrity guests are Jamie Redknapp, Jimmy Carr and Pixie Geldof.
