Politician banned from social media because of his very inappropriate surname

A political candidate has been banned from using his full name on Facebook because it is deemed offensive.

Luc Anus, 26, decided to stand as a council candidate in Lobbes, in Belgium’s Wallonia region.

But while sharing his campaign ideas on Facebook, he discovered that his surname went against the regulations of the social media site.

Sadly for Mr Anus, it’s not just issues with social media that he has had to deal with.

The Socialist Party candidate often gets jibes when it comes to his rather unfortunate surname.

When someone uploaded a copy of Anus’ election poster to social media, he became a viral hit and the butt of many jokes in Belgium.

Other voters have called on Anus to change his family name to something more appropriate.

Anus said he is unfazed by all the jokes and negative comments about his name, adding: "I can deal with it."

On Facebook, Anus had to adjust his name to ‘Luc Anu’ after the American social media company banned his real surname for being too offensive.

Anus said: "Facebook just does not accept my name."

However, the Belgian politician did find some support as well.

One person said: "Why should he change his family name? You should always be proud of it."

According to the most recent data from the Belgian civil registry, there are 49 people with Anus as their last name and they all live in the French-speaking Wallonia region of the country.
