Police issue appeal to find 7ft tall bearded man, 53, who has been missing for five days in south London

  • Neil Sargent was reported missing in New Malden, south west London, last week
  • Merton Police shared a picture of him on Facebook which shows he has a beard
  • Anyone who sees Mr Sargent is asked to contact the police using the 101 number

Police are asking members of the public to keep an eye out for a 7ft tall bearded man who has been missing for five days.

Neil Sargent, 53, was first reported missing from New Malden, south west London, last week. 

Merton Police, part of the Metropolitan Police, took to Facebook on Saturday to share a public appeal to find the man.

A spokesman wrote: ‘Neil Sargent who is 53-years-old is missing from New Malden. He is 7ft tall.’

The force also posted an image of Mr Sargent which shows him dressed in tracksuit bottoms and standing next to a bag of shopping. 

He also appears to be wearing glasses and a beanie.

The Metropolitan Police later revealed that Mr Sargent was not quite as tall as initially suspected.

A spokesman said: ‘Previous social media posts put out by Merton Police referred to Mr Sargent being seven foot tall. 

‘This was based on information given to police at the time he went missing. Following further enquiries, we now believe Mr Sargent to be approximately 6ft 3ins tall.’   

Mr Sargent was last seen at 7pm on October 10 on a bus going to Kingston.  

Anyone with information is asked to call the Metropolitan police using the 101 and quoting reference number 18MIS040873.
