The teenager stabbed to death near a busy London station just weeks before Christmas has today been named and pictured.
Student Ilyas Habibi, 17, died after being knifed near Sutton station on Tuesday evening after an ‘altercation’, Scotland Yard said.
Metropolitan Police officers and paramedics from the London Ambulance Service rushed to his side after being called to the high street at 7.08pm, but he was pronounced dead at the scene 50 minutes later despite them desperately trying to save his life.
Detectives immediately launched a manhunt for the alleged knifeman who is yet to be traced.
The area was sealed off by the police and the station was closed with trains not being able to run until the next morning.

This evening, Detective Chief Inspector Mike Nolan revealed details of Ilyas’ last movements as he urged witnesses to help with its murder investigation.
DCI Nolan said: ‘We know that Ilyas arrived at Sutton High Street by train. Minutes after he came out of the station he was involved in an altercation with the suspect who then fled the scene.
‘Ilyas had suffered fatal wounds. It isn’t clear if the suspect was also injured. If you know the suspect, or if you are him, please get in touch.’
The fatal stabbing has left the community ‘shocked and saddened’, Chief Superintendent Andy Brittan said.
‘I share those emotions and would like to reassure local people that we are doing everything we can to support our homicide colleagues in identifying and apprehending the person, or persons responsible,’ he said.
‘I urge anyone who is concerned to approach officers on patrol and speak with them or get in touch with their neighbourhood policing team.
‘Our thoughts are with the victim’s family at this sad time. I would like to thank the community for their patience as we carry out our enquiries, and urge anyone with information concerning this incident to get in touch.’
Ilyas’ family are being supported by specialist officers and have asked for privacy.
