Pictured – Man murdered in London brawl as family ‘beside themselves with grief’

A 22-year-old man stabbed to death during a violent brawl on a south London street has been named by police.

Shevaun Sorrell was found with multiple knife wounds on Deptford Church Street at 11.45pm on Saturday.

He was taken by paramedics to a south London hospital where he was pronounced dead at 12.40am.

Police are appealing for witnesses following reports that Sorrell was killed during a row with two or more men.

The victim’s father, 70-year-old Vernon Sorrell, paid tribute to his son as a music fan who "was bright and good with computers".

He told the Evening Standard: "He really was one of the best, we are devastated and struggling to understand why he was killed."

Detective Chief Inspector Michael Norman said: "Sadly another young life has been senselessly lost due to violence. The victim’s family are beside themselves with grief and we are working hard to trace those responsible.

"The people I want to hear from are those who may have seen an altercation between two males or a group of males beforehand, but may not have realised what had happened."

Police have made no arrests.

The death comes just days after police announced their 100th homicide investigation this year in the capital with the death of a woman who was severely burned in a flat fire.

Kaltoun Saleh, 43, died in hospital nearly seven weeks after the blaze in Finsbury Park, north London, prompting detectives to begin treating it as murder, Scotland Yard said on Thursday evening.

Earlier this month two men were arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with the house fire that killed seven-year-old Joel Urhie in Deptford.

The youngster died trapped in his bedroom at the home in southeast London on Tuesday.

The Metropolitan Police say two men have been arrested on suspicion of murder, attempted murder and arson with intent to endanger life.

The 21 and 29 year old were arrested this morning in south London.

Anyone with information, including CCTV or dash-cam footage, should contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
