A 14-year-old girl died during an abortion six months in to her pregnancy after being repeatedly raped by an uncle in Pakistan.
The girl, identified by local media as Uzma, began living with her maternal aunt and her husband in the city of Okara in Punjab, Pakistan, after her parents separated.
During a six-month ordeal, Uzma was repeatedly raped by her uncle, with the continued sexual assaults resulting in pregnancy.
When the uncle, named by local media as Ghulam Anwar, and his wife, Sajida Bibi, learned of the girl’s condition they forced her to undergo a termination.
The 14-year-old was six-months pregnant at the time of the abortion. Uzma developed complications due to the late stage of the operation and died in hospital.

Abortion is only permitted in Pakistan at six months to save the woman’s life. It’s unclear whether the termination was performed by a medical professional.
Hospital officials confirmed to local media that the girl had been raped over a long period of time.
Following her death, Uzma’s father registered a complaint with Okara police, who arrested both suspects.
In September, Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan called for the worst sex offenders to be hanged or chemically castrated amid fury over the gang rape of a woman earlier the same month.

The attack involved a woman who was dragged from her car at gunpoint and raped in front of her two children after her car broke down.
