Organiser of huge illegal lockdown rave in gazebo claims party was for 20 but hundreds turned up

THE organiser of a huge, illegal lockdown rave inside a gazebo claims the party was planned for just 20 guests before hundreds more turned up.

Cops were pelted with missiles at the party in Gorton on Saturday night – one of two raves broken up by cops in Greater Manchester over the weekend.

Party organiser and home owner Charlene Proham, 27, was given a £100 fine on Tuesday.

She was given a closure order on her home, meaning other people were banned from entering the property for at least three months. She could be sent to prison if she breaks the order.

Proham said she only invited 20 friends to the party before it escalated.

"Over 100 people showed up at the house, some that I didn't even know. My house is trashed and things got taken," she told the Manchester Evening News.

"Obviously I am sorry but it really was out of my hands, I never planned for that many people to show up.

"The police came and said we had an hour to close the party down. They said people were throwing missiles but they weren't. Police came back after an hour and by that point the party was all wrapped up."

Footage of the rave was shared on Snapchat, showing youngsters packed together despite strict lockdown laws in the area.

Deputy Chief Constable Ian Pilling of Greater Manchester Police said they were investigating videos of the party.

"Quite frankly, it is beyond comprehension and I am incredibly disappointed that people feel they can gather in this way – blatantly flouting the rules," he said.

"I can honestly say that in 30 years of policing I have never seen anything quite as outrageous as this behaviour. It is appalling."

DCC Pilling said those attending illegal raves were making an "already difficult situation" worse.

"We are still in the midst of a global pandemic and over 40,000 people have lost their lives. Greater Manchester is specifically affected to the extent we have a local lockdown and many places still have a rising infection rate," he said.

FORCED TO CALL FOR BACK UP

Officers attending the rave on Saturday were forced to call for heavy back up after they were pelted with missiles by partygoers.

Meanwhile in Birmingham, 200 revellers gathered for an illegal rave on Saturday night.

The illegal gatherings come as coronavirus cases in the city have rocketed from 13.8 per 100,000 people to 28.1.

It's the second week in a row partygoers have flouted social distancing rules to attend events in Birmingham.

West Midlands Police busted the huge DJ-led block party in Hampton Street in the city centre on Friday night.

The pictures show Covidiots partying hard into the early hours of Saturday.

Superintendent Jack Hadley shared pictures from the drone and video from ground level of the rave which he said created a "huge
amount of rubbish".

He tweeted: that "such selfish behaviours will not be tolerated".

In Borehamwood, Hertforshire, one teenager was knifed in the head and another was slashed during a 600-person illegal warehouse rave last night.

Cops shut the party down after hundreds gathered. Both teenagers hurt at the party were taken to hospital.

Many of those who attended the rave travelled from outside the area, Chief Inspector Frankie Westoby said.

Meanwhile in nearby Oldham, a notorious party house was shut down by the Town Hall.
