A young girl has severed her finger by slamming a door on it.

Lexi Probert-Wilmott, five, was playing with her siblings at her house in Newport, Wales, when she slammed her right middle finger on the front door on Sunday.

Her mother Kelly, told Wales Online she did not believe what had happened until she saw the finger and bone ‘hanging out’.

‘I didn’t believe her at first because she wasn’t screaming or anything. She was crying, like children do when they fall over, but she wasn’t hysterical or anything.

‘Then I saw her finger with a bone hanging out and it was like a horror movie. It was horrible,’ she said.

The mother said Lexi had come into the home for a drink and left through the front door which was when she chopped off her right middle finger.

Kelly said her eldest son, 14, rushed down the stairs thinking the commotion was a joke.

But he quickly jumped into action, picking up the finger and put it on paper to stop the family dog from getting to the detached digit.

Lexi was taken to Morriston Hospital in Swansea where surgeons reattached her finger back.
