Nail-biting moment plane lands in the middle of the freeway

This is the petrifying moment cars had to frantically dodge out of the way as a plane landed in a busy freeway.

Keri Decker was driving along the Interstate 8 in San Diego, California when the small aircraft came to an emergency stop in a lane in front of her.

Her dashcam footage captured the moment the plane safely lands in the middle lane, before veering over into the left.

She was taking her son to the dentist and can be heard panicking on camera.

It continued taxing before finally grinding to a halt a few minutes later, as people in the cars around the plane watched on in horror.

As Keri’s car drives past the plane, the two people inside look a little shaken up but understandably relieved at their smooth landing.

"Major props to these two dudes for landing without any problems," she wrote on Facebook after the incident.

California Highway Patrol say the incident occurred at 11.15am on Friday.

Travis Garrow, a California Highway Patrol Officer, said: "According to the pilot, they started having a loss of power and some engine travels.

"They were on course to land at the airport but knew they weren’t going to make that. He was able to make that emergency landing.

"I’m not sure how he missed traffic, there’s a lot going on out here. It’s a miracle.

"There’s power lines behind me, overhead signs behind me, so the fact that he was successful is a pretty good achievement."

Miraculously, nobody was hurt and the plane was not damaged.

The aircraft, being steered by a student pilot alongside and instructor, had been experiencing engine trouble.

The instructor took over the controls of the Piper propeller aircraft to land safely.

Two lanes remained shut down as an investigation was launched at the scene.
