Mystery after body found in allotment before second corpse found in house

A body was found in an allotment before a second corpse was discovered in a nearby house in cases that may be linked, police say.

The deaths of the two men are currently being treated as unexplained.

Police found the body of a man near the allotments in Lenora Street in Stoke on Trent at about 1.20pm today.

Two and a half hours later, as officers made enquiries nearby, a second body was found at an address in Barnfield Road, less than half a mile away.

In a statement Staffordshire Police said: "Next of kin have now been informed as both deaths appear to be linked and specially-trained officers are providing support at this difficult time.

"The deaths are being treated as unexplained at this time, but detectives are working alongside forensics teams to establish the series of events."

Detective Chief Inspector Jason Everett, senior investigating officer for Staffordshire Police, said: "We do not believe there is any ongoing threat or risk to any member of the public and we would ask for everyone to remain calm.

"We will maintain a scene at Barnfield Road overnight and neighbourhood officers are completing door-to-door enquiries to gather information and provide reassurance to the local community."
