Mum shocked to see what’s staring back at her when she opens Tesco salad

A mum has spoken of how she spotted a grasshopper in her Tesco salad – when its "beady little eyes" stared at her.

Hairdresser Kirsty Reidy says she felt like she was partaking in an I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here Bushtucker challenge instead of her work lunch break this week.

The 30-year-old mum-of-one was on a break with colleagues at Franny B hair Salon, in Oxford Road, Middlesbrough and started to tuck into her Tesco Simple Salad, alongside some homemade lasagne.

But she says just as she lifted her fork to eat some, she says she noticed some "beady little eyes" staring at her.

Kirsty says she focused in on the forkful of grub and claims she spotted a fully-informed two-inch grasshopper looking at her from among the lettuce and carrot shreds, Teeside Live reports.

She told Teesside Live: "We were all chatting and then all of a sudden I felt the need to look at the end of my fork.

"I just seen it’s beady little eyes just starting at me!

"I flung the fork and my plate onto the table in shock! My colleague, who is really squeamish ran to the toilet to be sick.

"My other colleague was dead brave and inspected what it was.

"It was dead as a doornail thank god. It was brown. We googled it and matched it up with a grasshopper."

Married Kirsty, who lives in Marton and has been a hairdresser for 14 years, laughed as she recalled taking the insect back to where she bought it – the Tesco store on Roman Road – and staff there started "baulking", she says.

She said: "They asked me if I wanted another one but I said ‘no way!’ I just had a refund instead.

"It was like I was on a Bushtucker challenge.

"There’s no harm done. I just think it’s quite funny."

Teesside Live has contacted Tesco for comment.
