Moment Jaguar 'races past Audi' before high-speed six-car pile-up left man, 25, fighting for life

THIS is the moment a "racing" Jaguar speeds past an Audi before a high-speed six-car pile-up left a driver fighting for his life.

The F-Type was left "squashed flat" after witnesses claim the two sports cars were racing down Chislehurst High Street last night.

A 25-year-old driver is in hospital in a serious condition after both drivers reportedly lost control and collided when a bus turned onto the bottom of the hill.

The Jaguar is said to have flipped and landed on its roof, before witnesses rushed to help and turn it back over.

A group of men enjoying a pint at a nearby pub got the car onto its wheels with the driver still inside.

Barry Woodley, who owns a furniture store on the high street, saw the aftermath of the crash.

The 62-year-old, from nearby Bickley, south-east London, said: "It is the worst accident I have ever seen.

"Every car I looked at seems to be a write off. They were all squashed on one side.

"I couldn't even make out what type of cars they were it was that bad. The Jaguar was in the road.

"The car had been upside down and I am told some people came out the pub and flipped it back over.

DRAMATIC CRASH

"The driver must have still been inside it because I left at 11.30pm and only then were the paramedics pulling him out.

"His car was flat – it was completely squashed.

"I was told they were coming down the high street side-by-side while a bus was coming up the other way and one of them must have bottled it.

"The Jag travelled another 50 yards and hit the parked cars and the Audi came further and stopped by the lamppost which was bent over double.

"If a car compacts another car that much, I can't understand how they travelled so far – the speed must've been going some.

"If Cotes has been busy with people sat outside, as they usually are at this time of year, it could have been so much worse – it doesn't bare thinking about.

"Somebody just got out of their car to use the loo in Cotes and came back to find his car destroyed. I'm told he had a lucky escape."

It is the worst accident I have ever seen. Every car I looked at seems to be a write off. They were all squashed on one side.

A dad who leaves nearby told of the scene of destruction he was faced with after hearing a loud bang.

He said: "The car was steaming and there was oil and petrol all over the floor. It could have been so much worse.

"An elderly couple were also minutes away from returning to their car.

"The tarmac was pulled off and the bollards were ripped out on the high street.

"I am told the girlfriend of the driver was a woman crying and screaming in the road.

"At that point, the driver was lying flat on the floor and the people from the pub were trying to resuscitate him. The paramedics arrived minutes later.

"It's crazy. It all happened so quickly and within two or three seconds there was a quarter of a million pounds of car damaged."

Dramatic photos suggest a Nissan Qashqai, a Volkswagen, a Volvo XC90 and a Porsche Cayenne were also wrecked in the pile-up.

Locals were still clearing up the destruction caused by the smash at 8am this morning and the high street has reopened.

Met Police said a 25-year-old woman suffered minor injuries while a 25-year-old man remains in hospital in a critical condition.

A spokesperson said: "Police were called on Wednesday, August 21 at around 10pm to High Street, Chislehurst to reports of a collision between two vehicles.

"The emergency services attended and a 25-year-old man was found seriously injured.

"He was taken to a south London hospital in a critical condition.

"A 25-year-old woman with minor injuries was also taken to hospital as a precaution.

"The driver of the other car is speaking to officers. There have been no arrests and enquiries are ongoing."
