Michelle Wolf rips Trump over Khashoggi murder

Comedian Michelle Wolf mocked President Trump for not standing up for murdered journalist Jamal Khashoggi after the commander-in-chief tweeted that she “bombed” while hosting the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner.

“I bet you’d be on my side if I had killed a journalist,” she wrote on Twitter late Tuesday.

She added the hashtag “#BeBest,” the name of first lady Melania Trump’s campaign against cyber-bullying.

Trump on Tuesday ignored the CIA’s conclusion that Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman was behind the killing of Washington Post writer Khashoggi last month and said the kingdom would not face any penalties from the US.

The online kerfuffle between the president and the comedian began after Wolf called the correspondents’ association “cowards” for scheduling historian Ron Chernow to headline next April’s dinner instead of a comic.

“The @whca are cowards. The media is complicit. And I couldn’t be prouder,” she wrote after the announcement on Monday.

Trump, who has stayed away from the dinners while president, weighed in Tuesday that he might attend now that “Alexander Hamilton” author Chernow was picked to host the event.

He also used the opportunity to blast Wolf.

“So-called comedian Michelle Wolf bombed so badly last year at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner that this year, for the first time in decades, they will have an author instead of a comedian,” Trump posted on his account. “Good first step in comeback of a dying evening and tradition! Maybe I will go?”

Wolf was highly criticized after hosting last April’s dinner, especially her blistering attack on White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders.

“I actually really like Sarah. I think she’s very resourceful. Like she burns facts, and then she uses that ash to create a perfect smoky eye. Like maybe she’s born with it, maybe it’s lies. It’s probably lies,” Wolf said.
