Meghan Markle attends Westminster Abbey for Remembrance Sunday service

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are attending Westminster Abbey as part of Remembrance Sunday commemorations.

The Prince of Wales, the Duchess of Cornwall, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have also arrived for the service of remembrance which pays tribute to those who fell during the Great War.

The Queen took her seat at the front of the Abbey wearing a purple outfit for the sombre occasion.

The event marks the centenary of the armistice signed between the Allies and Germany at Compiègne, France, for the cessation of hostilities on the Western Front.

Prime Minister Theresa May and Defence Secretary Gavin Williamson will pay their respects alongside serving members of Britain’s Armed Forces.



They were joined by Germany’s president Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

He became the the first German leader to lay a wreath at the Cenotaph ceremony in a historic act of reconciliation earlier in the day.

Britain fall silent for two minutes at 11am as millions around the globe marked 100 years since the end of the First World War.

The Queen watched the service in central London from a balcony, where she has been joined by the Duchess of Cornwall and the Duchess of Cambridge.

Prince Charles laid a wreath on her behalf.
