Officers allege the motorbike rider followed the driver to a nearby home, doused his car with flammable liquid, lit a rag and threw it at the driver as he was trying to leave, causing his clothes to catch fire.

The driver, a 19-year-old man from Lalor, suffered minor burns and was taken to hospital for treatment.

The motorbike rider fled the scene after a neighbour from a nearby property came out onto the street.

The assailant remains on the run and police are investigating.
