Lightning strikes World Trade Center during dramatic thunderstorm in New York

Manhattan’s famous skyline lit up on Tuesday night as a huge lightning storm raged in New York.

After an unseasonably warm start of October, the city was battered by heavy rain and thunderstorms.

Photographer John Angelillo captured the moment a huge bolt of lightning struck the World Trade Center Freedom Tower in Downtown Manhattan.

A round of severe storms moved through the Tri-State area, bringing torrential rain and damaging winds while also prompting several tornado warnings.

Over in the west of the United States, tropical storm Rosa drenched Arizona with heavy rainfall flooding parts of Phoenix.

Flooded roadways slowed commuters, as they took their time making their way through rain soaked streets. Some roads were closed due to extreme flooding.

First responders rescued at least six people from vehicles trapped in floodwaters.

Some rivers and dams overflowed from the heavy rains.

Officials say more than two inches of rain fell in the greater Phoenix area.
