Disgraced sports doctor Larry Nassar thinks the decades he spent sexually assaulting young women should have been treated as a “medical malpractice case” rather than as a crime, prosecutors say.
The former Michigan State University and USA Gymnastics doctor is “defiant and unrepentant” about his crimes, according to a report released Friday by Michigan Attorney General’s Office as part of an investigation into the college’s handling of Nassar.
“Nassar claimed that he only pleaded guilty because he lost support from the medical community and his patients after the police discovered reams of child pornography in his possession,” the report says.
“In fact, it immediately became clear that his statements of remorse in the courtroom were a farce.”
He told investigators that his “treatment” was done for medical purposes, not for his own pleasure.
Nassar was sentenced in January to 40 to 175 years on sexual assault charges. He had been previously sentenced to 60 years on child porn charges.
