Katie Price arrives at court to face trial over drink driving charge

‘It’s one rule for celebrities and another for us’: Anger as brazen Katie Price laughs off three-month ban after she is convicted of being in charge of her vomit-covered pink Range Rover – but CLEARED of drink-driving after blaming mystery friend for crash

  • Price, 40, smashed her pink 4×4 into a car and a hedge in South East London
  • She was almost twice legal limit when arrested in the early hours last October
  • Price was cleared of drink driving after judge said there was no case to answer
  • But she was convicted on separate charge of being drunk in charge of a vehicle

Katie Price was today banned from driving for three months and fined £1,500 after being found slumped in a ‘very’ drunken state in the back of her vomit-covered pink Range Rover which police saw collide with a grass verge.

The former glamour model was almost twice the legal limit after drinking four pornstar martinis when she was arrested in the early hours last October in Greenwich, South East London.

But today she brazenly vowed to buy a new car as she spoke outside Bexley Magistrates’ Court.

Price punched the air as she emerged from Bexley Magistrates’ Court today having been given a three-month driving ban

‘I was given a choice of having 10 points on my licence or to be disqualified for three months,’ she said.

‘I chose to be disqualified for three months because it adds on to my disqualification that I’m already on, which means I get my driving licence back on the 24th of May which means I can go car shopping – let’s ban the pink car.’

Commenting on the ban, she said: ‘Brilliant, I thought I was about to get two years.’

Angry social media users have now taken to Twitter to condemn the ‘ridiculously lenient’ three-month ban.

One user said: ‘This is a ridiculously lenient punishment on Katie Price. No wonder so many people drink and drive, unless they kill someone it’s no big deal and inevitably at some point they will.’

Another said the sentence was proof there is ‘one rule’ for celebrities and ‘another for us’.

‘I’m sorry but the fact that Katie Price only got a three month ban is [proof] that it’s one rule for them and another for us because if any of us did what she did we’d be banned for life and would be fined a lot more,’ a Twitter user said.

‘But because she’s famous she gets special treatment’.

Price was said to have climbed into the back seat of her 4×4 to avoid being caught as the driver last year – but had bloodshot eyes, slurred speech and smelled of alcohol.

Mother-of-five Price allegedly repeatedly denied she had been driving and claimed the driver was her boyfriend’s friend – and anyone was insured to drive her car if they were aged over 30.

Today at Bexley Magistrates’ Court, 40-year-old Price was cleared of drink driving after the judge said there was no case to answer, because there was no evidence of who had been driving the Range Rover before police arrived. But Price was convicted of being nearly twice the legal limit while in charge of the vehicle.

She was banned from driving for another three months and told to pay a £1,500 fine. Along with costs and a victim surcharge, her total bill for the offence came to £2,425.

Price had claimed she was not in control of the car and a mystery man had driven it, but Judge Nigel Dean found she was not a ‘plausible’ or ‘credible’ witness.

It comes after a separate case on January 9 saw Price banned from getting behind the wheel for three months after she admitted driving while disqualified and without insurance.

She was also fined £1,100 at Crawley Magistrates’ Court for driving on the A24 near her West Sussex home on July 25 while a six-month driving ban was still in place.

Today, regarding the Woolwich incident on October 10 last year, Police Constables Benjamin Jones and Balvinder Mann said they first saw her car veer off the road and hit a grass verge at 12.40am before seeing it stationary about 15 minutes later.

PC Jones told the court that he approached the car to find Price in the back of the vehicle with her boyfriend, Kris Boyson, in the passenger seat.

‘Her eyes were blurred and her speech was a bit slurred. Although she was sitting, it was in a slumped position,’ PC Jones said.

He added: ‘I could smell alcohol. In my opinion she was drunk.’ Prosecutor Sonya Saul asked how drunk, to which PC Jones replied: ‘I would say very.’

The car, he added, showed signs of a collision, with the bumper hanging off and pieces of shrubbery attached to its exterior.

PC Jones went on: ‘I also noticed what appeared to be sick on the outside of the car.’

Both Price and Mr Boyson said a third person had been driving and that they ran off after the trio had an argument, the court heard.

Taken away: The vehicle was driven off by an unidentified male following the smash last year

The officer said Mr Boyson told Price to ‘shut up’ when she was asked who was driving.

They both said the unnamed person who fled the car had the key, but the car’s engine later turned on, he told the court.

Price was arrested in a shoeless state and taken to Plumstead police station for a breathalyser test, having allegedly refused one at the side of the road.

She told officers she had been at a friend’s birthday celebration for the evening, during which she was drinking ‘pornstar martini’ cocktails, the prosecutor said.

Crash: The damage on Katie’s car was clear to see on following the shock incident in October

Ms Saul concluded: ‘The Crown says that Katie Price was clearly in charge of the car while drunk and also had been driving the car before it was stopped while over the limit.’

Price, who lives in Horsham, West Sussex, was met by a mass of photographers as she arrived at the court in a black Mercedes.

How many times Price been banned?

February 2019: Three-month ban for being drunk while in charge of her Range Rover.

January 2019: Handed three-month driving ban and fined £1,100 for driving while disqualified and not having third-party insurance for her vehicle.

2012: Banned for 12 months after her white Range Rover was seen speeding through London in 2011.

Wearing a navy suit jacket, she had numerous coughing fits as the hearing began.

It was alleged Price had 69 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35mcg.

Sonya Saul, prosecuting, said: ‘The CCTV shows a pink Range Rover in Pavillion Gardens executing a three point turn. It goes up on the verge and hits a VW Golf.

‘It’s six minutes just showing that incident there. The manner of the driving may be of relevance to you.’

She added that an email was sent to Price’s defence and the court informing them of the new charge of drink driving on February 15.

Paul Macauley, defending, said: ‘An email came from the CPS a few days ago – drink driving has been put forward as opposed to while in charge of a vehicle.’

The hearing was briefly put back while she watched the CCTV of the Range Rover hitting the other vehicle before the new charge of drink driving is put to her.

Discarded shopping bags and makeup wipes can be seen piles in the passenger seat of her car

Asking the clerk if her friend could stay in the courtroom while she viewed it, she added: ‘But the journalists can leave.’

On January 7, she initially refused to give her address at Bromley Magistrates’ Court during an appearance relating to the same incident, but District Judge Nigel Dean ignored her request, and scolded her by saying ‘all defendants are treated equally’.

Price, formerly known as Jordan, has tied the knot three times and is now dating Kris Boyson, 29, following the collapse of her most recent marriage to Kieran Hayler.

She also revealed last September her mother Amy Price has been diagnosed with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) – the same disease that killed Keith Chegwin.

Over the past year there have been reports that the former model, a keen horse rider, had been trying to sell off her pink horsebox and a number of her animals.

Her £2million mansion, a former home of politician Francis Maude, boasts nine bedrooms, a two bedroom annexe, 12 acres of land, a pool, tennis court and stables.

She bought it for £1.35million in October 2014, but it has since fallen into a state of disrepair, with the grounds strewn with rubbish and the pool full of dirty water.

Earlier this month Price revealed that she has ‘no choice’ but to put her 16-year-old disabled son Harvey into care.

The former glamour model’s boyfriend, Kris Boyson, was pictured at Plumstead police station, hours after Price was arrested last October. The personal trainer had been at the station since the early hours after the star crashed her £75k pink Range Rover into a bush in Woolwich

Price has said that she can no longer cope with looking after the teenager who has autism and Prader-Willi syndrome now that he is 6ft 2in and 24 stone.

She said that she was inundated with negative comments since revealing her intentions but still intends to put Harvey into residential care part-time.

Comparing him to a ‘nightmare newborn’, she said that he has smashed the house ‘to bits’ and wakes up her four other children on a regular basis.

Harvey’s father is former footballer Dwight Yorke, who requested a DNA test to prove that Harvey was his son after he was born. He has since been absent from his life.

Price also has two children with ex-husband Peter Andre, son Junior and daughter Princess, and two with her other ex Kieran Hayler, daughter Bunny and son Jett.
