Jamie Oliver recalls 'frightening' moment he chased and pinned down intruder outside his £9m mansion

The celebrity chef caught the criminal trying to break into his home in North London, where his wife and five children were sleeping, on Tuesday evening.

He has now opened up about the harrowing ordeal after it was revealed he pinned the intruder to the ground until cops arrived.

Jamie said: "I didn't have a choice so it wasn't really about bravery. I wouldn't recommend it.

"I had a tiny window to stop something getting much much worse.

"It was a very horrible, unfortunate and frightening scenario."

The 43-year-old was hailed a hero after it was revealed he had chased the man down the street and tackled him.
The intruder had already attempted to break into other properties nearby before smashing into Jamie’s £8.9million eight-bedroom mansion.

Jamie instinctively jumped into action after hearing the drama unfold in his street – but when the chef investigated, he found the raider targeting his own home.

A source told the Mirror: “He was face to face with the burglar himself as he tried to smash his way into his house as well.

“Jamie went absolutely mad and sprinted after the man down the street before catching up with him and pinning him down to the floor.

“He was then joined by his driver and a handful of neighbours who helped him hold down the burglar until police arrived to arrest him.”

It is thought the intruder had attempted to break into a home believed to belong to model Kate Moss before smashing into Jamie’s property.

Jamie’s wife Jools, 43, and five children Poppy, 16, Daisy, 15, Petal, nine, Buddy, seven and River, two, were home at the time of the incident on Tuesday evening.

Witnesses said the man had been "dancing around topless" in the beer garden of nearby pub The Flask before heading to Jamie's mansion.

One said: "He was f***ed out of his head. He went into the beer garden, took his top off and started dancing. There was no music."

He is said to have left the pub and first made his way to George Michael's home before heading to Jamie's home.

The witness added: "He started staring in the gates at George Michael's house. It was weird.

"Then he was outside Jamie Oliver's house looking through the gates. Next thing we see this blonde guy chasing the guy down the street, it was Jamie Oliver.

"It was crazy.  He sprinted down the street with three guys, who looked like security guards, pinned him to the ground in the car park with his arm behind his back."

A spokesman for Scotland Yard said: “At 7.13pm on Tuesday, 4th of September, police were called to reports of an aggressive male attempting to gain entry to residential addresses in N6.

“The male was apprehended by members of the public and was subsequently detained by police.

“He was taken to a north London police station and was subsequently released with no further action.”
