Irish woman is found dead in Croatian villa swimming pool, as police investigate potential foul play

An Irish woman has been found dead at a holiday villa on a Croatian island in the Adriatic Sea.

The body of the 54-year-old woman was discovered in a swimming pool at a villa on the island of Ciovo at 3.30am Friday, police said today.

Ciovo is connected to mainland Croatia via a bridge, some 19 miles east of the popular port city of Split.

Investigation: The 54-year-old Irish woman was found dead in a swimming pool on the island of Ciovo at 3.30am Friday 

Split police say they are investigating whether there woman’s death may have been a crime. 

‘According to information we have by now, there were no traces of violent death found at the body’, police spokeswoman Ana Cepic has revealed on Friday morning.

They added that they would not reveal the woman’s identity until Irish authorities and the family are informed. 

A spokesperson for the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade in Ireland told MailOnline it could not comment on individual cases. 

‘However, the Department stands ready to provide consular assistance to any Irish citizen.’
