Jack Robinson was left needing 41 stitches following the pub attack, in which he was reportedly targeted for sticking up for a friend.
He was out in Forsbrook, Staffs, at 10.20pm on Saturday when he said a man started verbally abusing his friend, and when stepped in, the man "out of nowhere" glassed him in the face.
Police have arrested a 24-year-old on suspicion of grievous bodily harm.
The brutal attack left him with three huge gashes across his cheeks, damage to the left side of his face, soaked in blood and permanently scarred.
Jack said: “The force of the object was immediately what hurt the most.
“I knew it was glass because of all the blood, I took my jacket off to cover the wound.
“I didn’t have a clue what it was when it first hit me, but I’m terrified of needles so all I kept thinking was 'how many needles is this going to need?
“I’m really angry about the permanent damage to my face, as I’ll have to live with that long after this has come to a close.
“I’m worried now about how people are reacting to me and how I look, as it’s all still very raw.
“The nurse told me it would scar, but told me she was going to stitch it slowly, and carefully because the longer it takes to stitch, the better it will heal.
Jack said he would get used to the scars, but it was distressing to know he would have them for life.
“I don’t know the attacker as a person, but to be able to do that to someone is just horrific, I hope he gets the justice he deserves."
After the incident, Jack’s attacker fled the venue.
Luckily two off-duty A&E nurses in the pub came straight to his aid and he was rushed to hospital via ambulance.
Staffordshire Police said a 24-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of GBH but released pending further investigation.
Jack said: “I would ask anyone to think about the consequences of their actions a quick action from you can mean a life changing affliction for someone else.
“It’s a bit scary at the moment, I‘m going to get funny looks and I’ll have to be way more wary when I’m out.
“I definitely don’t feel as safe where I live.
“But it’s happened now hasn’t it, so you’ve got to get on with it.
The bar staff and owner were incredible on the night, Jack said, and they had him to make sure he was ok since and apologised for it happening at their venue.
“The police have been fantastic, it happened on the Saturday and they were straight round on Sunday, I couldn’t ask for any more of them.”
A spokesman for Staffordshire Police said: “We are appealing for information following an assault at the [pub] on Cheadle Road in Forsbrook on Saturday night.
“It was reported that a 20-year-old man was hit with a glass inside of the pub at around 10.20pm.
