I'm so worried after my teenage son has confessed to buying and smoking cannabis

I’d noticed him coming home after playing at the skate park with bloodshot eyes and an odd smell. I suspected it might be cannabis so I bought some strips to test his urine.

When I told him what I planned he admitted he had been smoking weed for a few weeks.

He finally told me that there is a boy he meets at the park who is supplying it.

Should I contact the police? I honestly don’t know what to do.

DEIDRE SANDERS: Don’t panic. Most teens come into contact with drugs at some point in their life. He may be trying to fit in or it’s just curiosity.

Make sure he knows you love him and be willing to listen to what he has to say.

Arm yourself with as much information as possible so you can talk knowledgeably with him about all the risks and downsides.

My e-leaflet Drug Worries will help and I’d suggest you talk to FRANK drugs information service before you decide whether to inform the police (talktofrank.com, 0300 123 6600).
