Horrifying dashcam shows lorry smash into queue of cars leaving two seriously injured

THIS is the moment a lorry driver smashes into queuing traffic on a busy road, leaving two people with "catastrophic" injuries.

David Price, 65, was jailed for 18 months for causing serious injury by dangerous driving following the horror smash on the A17 at Newark, Nottinghamshire.

Shocking dashcam footage shows him collide with a Renault Clio, causing a chain reaction during the crash on June 8, 2018.

The Clio smacks into the back of an Audi A1, which piles into the back of another lorry after Price fails to brake in time.

A Leeds University student driving the Clio was left with life-changing injuries, including a bleed on her brain, a broken back, broken neck, broken arm, broken ribs and a broken nose.

She had several operations and was forced to withdraw from university due to her injuries.

'LUCKY TO HAVE SURVIVED'

The Audi driver, who was travelling to Leeds with her daughter, suffered significant injuries and needed time off work.

In a victim impact statement, she said she "believed she was going to die that day" and felt "lucky to have survived".

Price had been travelling at around 55mph and collided with the Clio at 49mph.

He only hit his emergency brakes when he was approximately 15 metres away from the Clio.

Price’s dangerous driving caused catastrophic life-changing injuries

Travelling at 55mph it would have taken approximately 50 metres for the lorry to stop.

Police released the lorry's dashcam video after  Price was jailed last week.

Nottinghamshire Police Inspector Heather Sutton said: "We have issued the dashcam footage, with the agreement of the victims, as a warning to drivers to pay attention when behind the wheel.

"Price’s dangerous driving caused catastrophic life-changing injuries within the space of a few seconds.

"It could all have been avoided if he had paid attention when behind the wheel. Now he has time to reflect on the consequences of his actions in prison."

Price, from Manby, Lincolnshire, was sentenced to 18 months in prison at Nottingham Crown Court on Thursday after pleading guilty.

He was also handed a 29-month driving ban.
