DISGRACED Harvey Weinstein is set to be stripped of his CBE by the Government this week after his conviction for rape.
Weinstein, 68, was sentenced to 23 years in prison by a US court earlier this year following a string of sexual harassment claims made by actresses including Angelina Jolie, Gwyneth Paltrow and Ashley Judd.
The film producer is now expected to lose the CBE when the Honours Forfeiture Committee meets on Friday to consider recipients who have brought the system into disrepute.
The move follows a campaign by playwright Polly Creed for Britain to follow the example of France, where President Emmanuel Macron set in train the process for removing Weinstein’s Legion d’Honneur within days of the allegations surfacing in 2017.
More than 80 women came forward with allegations of sexual misconduct, including rape, against Weinstein.
He has consistently denied wrongdoing and his lawyers have vowed to appeal against his conviction.
Many of the women claimed they were blacklisted from lucrative projects if they rejected his advances.
Weinstein was awarded the honorary CBE in 2004, for services to the British film industry.
A CBE is the rank of a Commander of the Order of the British Empire and is one step below a knighthood.
Only when an honour is revoked is a public statement made to record it in the London Gazette.
Rolf Harris was stripped of his CBE in 2015.
It’s existed for 50 years and has five members, one of whom is chairman Sir Jonathan Stephens – a top civil servant who is in charge of the whole honours system.
The membership also includes the Treasury Solicitor and three permanent, independent members whose identities are not made public.
