To help you all get your whiskers in shape before the ultimate shave down this week we've pulled together all the top tips for the perfect shave and taming your blossoming ‘tache.

Prepare for the shave down

Before you shave off your beard, you need to make sure it’s prepped. It’s really important to hydrate – this will help eliminate any cuts, nicks or scratches whilst shaving.

The best way to do this is to use an exfoliating face scrub whilst you’re in the shower, and then shave immediately after. The Beard Face and Hair Wash from the L’Oréal Men Expert BarberClub is perfect to clean and condition your face and beard.

Use the right tools

A bad workman always blames his tools – but when it comes to shaving the tools are very important.

Make sure you’ve got a fresh, sharp razor blade with new lubrication strips. This will make sure you’ve got a clean, smooth shave. The Gillette Fusion5 razor not only features 5 anti-friction blades but also a Precision Trimer at the pack for those hard-to-reach places. Look out for special promotional packs at Tesco where £1 per sales will go back to the Movember Foundation.

It’s also best to use a shaving cream, gel or foam – this will help prevent irritation and rashes.

Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate!

Now you’ve got a nice, smooth face you’ll need to moisturise it. Don’t do this immediately after shaving though – this could give you a rash.

Wait a few minutes and then generously apply a hydrating, soothing moisturiser. Top tip – look out for products with natural ingredients, these will be better for your skin.

Throughout the month make sure you’re scrubbing and moisturising your bald bits every few days.

Tend to the 'tache

As you carefully nurture your ‘tache this Movember you’re going to want to keep it looking its best. Once again, the L’Oréal Men Expert BarberClub range has got you covered with its Short Beard & Face Moisturiser and Styling Cream to give your moustache definition.

For those who are able to grow theirs a little quicker – you might want to invest in a comb. A fine tooth comb will detangle your ‘tache and keep it nice and neat.

It won’t hurt to moisturise your mo’ every few days, too. That will keep the hair nice and soft.

Give it a trim

As the month goes on you’re going to want to keep your Mo’ in order – and that’s going to mean giving it a trim.

Invest in a pair of small moustache scissors to get the job done properly. Start at the bottom, using the line of your lip as a guide and then make small snips until you reach the length you’d like.

Once you’ve got your lip line sorted, move up making little snips and thinning out the thicker areas until you reach your nose. Simple!

If you want to go one step further and get twizzly with it then pick up some moustache wax and get creative.
