Girl, 2, dies four days after choking on a piece of bread at her babysitter’s house causing multiple organ failure

A TODDLER died in hospital four days after choking on a piece of bread at her babysitter's home.

The two-year-old never regained consciousness and suffered multiple organ failure after her brain was starved of oxygen, say cops in Malaysia.

The girl was being minded at her babysitter's house in the town of Selayang when tragedy struck last Monday.

Gombak Police chief Samsor Maarof told reporters: "At the emergency ward, the medical officer found a piece of bread during the resuscitation process."

Medics at Selayang Hospital told him the girl was unconscious when she was brought in.

Samsor confirmed that the tot, whose name has not been reported, died on on July 4, four days after being hospitalised.

He said a post-mortem report showed that the girl died of hypoxic-ischaemic encephalopathy (HIE) with multiple organ failure.

HIE is a brain dysfunction caused by a reduction in the supply of oxygen to the brain and other organs, compounded by low blood flow to vital organs.

It is unclear if the authorities are investigating the girl's death further.

The tot's death is the latest in a string of incidents involving babysitters.

In May, depraved Michael Wild, of Sheffield, was found guilty of murdering toddler Ella-Rose Clover.

The 22-month-old was bullied and battered while Wild pretended to "adore" her.

Ella-Rose sustained fatal injuries, including a blow to the abdomen.

Liverpool Crown Court was told that the girl died of internal bleeding and cardiac arrest "following the deliberate infliction of blows".

In Wisconsin, America, a pregnant babysitter was accused of killing a two-month-old boy, then pretending he was alive when she returned him to his mum.

Marissa Tietsort, 29, has pleaded not guilty to first-degree intentional homicide and child abuse.

Prosecutors allege the baby boy died in her care due to blunt-force injuries to his head.

Court documents said that rather than call for help, Tietsort dressed him in his snowsuit, pulled a hat down over his eyes, and took him to McDonald's.
