Girl, 2, burned to death inside dad’s car after playing with a box of matches she found in glove compartment – The Sun

A TWO-YEAR-OLD girl burned alive inside her father’s car after playing with matches she found in the glove compartment.

Oryna was left without supervision for few minutes near her house in the village of Kozatske in southern Ukraine.

It is understood that she climbed into the Zhiguli car parked in the courtyard and managed to close the door.

The tot is said to have found a box of matches inside the car and started playing with them.

Oryna lit matches and dropped them on the seat which immediately caught fire, police said.

She was found motionless inside the burning car by her 27-year-old father.

The man rushed his little daughter into the house and tried to resuscitate her but it was too late, local media reported.

Neighbours called for help when they heard Oryna’s mother’s screams.

When the paramedics arrived the little girl was already dead.

PLAYING WITH FIRE

Forensics say the girl’s body was badly burned and she was poisoned by carbon monoxide.

Police spokeswoman Natalia Mytrofanova said to local media: “The father said that he left his daughter alone in the courtyard and went into the house.

“When he looked out of the window few minutes later, he did not see the girl and rushed outside.

“There he saw his car that was burning and filled with smoke.

“He found his daughter motionless inside the car.”

Olga Safronova, the spokeswoman of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, said: “A box of matches and several burnt matches were found in the car.

“The child’s death was caused by burns and carbon monoxide poisoning.”

The police launched a criminal case against the parents for failing their parental duties and will face a fine if found guilty.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
