Girl, 12, fighting for life after car mounts pavement and ploughs into her as she walked with family

A GIRL, 12, is fighting for her life after a car mounted the pavement and smashed into her as she walked with her family.

She was rushed to hospital in Oxford and is still in a critical condition, surrounded by her loved ones.


Cops are hunting for the driver after the hit-and-run in Newbury just before 9pm last night – and have urged them to come forward.

The group were walking towards the town next to the A339 close to the railway bridge.

The vehicle involved is thought to be a white flatbed van or recovery vehicle – which failed to stop following the collision.

Investigating officer PC Mark Dunne said: “We are making an urgent appeal to anyone who has any information about this collision which has left a 12-year-old girl in a critical condition.

“I am making a direct appeal to the driver of the vehicle to come forward.

“If anyone witnessed the collision or has dash-cam footage then we would also like to hear from you.

“The vehicle involved may have noticeable damage around the front nearside, so if anyone has seen a similar vehicle with damage then please contact the police as soon as you can.
