A German mother broke down in court today as she faced the teenager who allegedly stabbed her refugee worker son to death.

Jose M., 20, died after a fight in a public park in Ochtrup, north-west Germany, in the early hours of May 21.

Prosecutors claim 18-year-old Afghan Seyed M. stabbed Jose M. to death after the refugee worker asked him to stop harassing a girl who had rejected his advances.

Heartbreaking: Maria M. cried as she faced Seyed M., 18, who is accused of stabbing her 20-year-old son Jose M. to death during a fight in Ochtrup, north-west Germany, in May this year

Accused: Seyed M. allegedly stabbed Jose M. six times with a 5.5inch bread knife after the refugee worker asked him to stop harassing a girl who had rejected him

Yesterday Jose M.’s mother Maria M cried as Seyed M., a trainee metal worker, appeared before the district court in Münster.

‘The day was really worse than the funeral of my son. I was so tense, I was shaking all over,’ she told Bild.

‘He [Seyed M.] also had the nerve to look everyone in the eye – and stay with me. Without emotion, without remorse, without looking down.

The prosecution claims Seyed M., who arrived in Germany in November 2015, had ‘fallen in love’ with a girl, but that she had rejected him.

Passionate: Jose M. was involved in local politics and worked with helping refugees

Despite this, he allegedly harassed her, wrote to her on social media, stalked her on her way from work, and even visited her workplace.

The unnamed girl then asked Jose M. for help and he arranged to meet with Seyed M. and a few of the latter’s friends to speak to him.

A fight ensued, which is when Seyed M. allegedly stabbed Jose M. six times, including in the hear, with a 5.5inch bread knife.

Following the murder of her son, Jose M.’s mother has called for the German government to do more to help integrate the high numbers of refugees the country welcomed during the 2015 European migrant crisis.

In an article for Bild, Maria M. describes her son as a passionate local politician and activist who had dedicated himself to helping everyone, including refugees in Ochtrup, yet he was killed by one of those he was trying to help.

While placing the blame of her son’s death with the killer, she also says that people who have fled war and persecution cannot be left to fend for themselves in a new country without support.

‘Please do not get me wrong, I am a foreigner myself. I’m from Portugal, and I think refugees must be helped.

‘How many of our children are supposed to die before the politicians finally realize that they have to do much more for the integration of the refugees?

‘The worst part is: I envy the culprit. He was the last one who saw my son alive, heard his last words, saw his last breath. I would have loved to have been there, grabbing José and telling him I love you.’
