A tall tale about a man who claimed he unwittingly stole from MS-13 has turned into a sob story — if you believe the latest twist.
Shane Morris of Nashville penned an elaborate lie on Twitter saying he happened on a brick of heroin owned by the notorious gang, then sold it. Now he says he fears for his life and hopes readers pity him enough to help pay for him to go into hiding.
“Y’all wanna hear a story about the time I accidentally transported a brick of heroin from Los Angeles to Seattle? I bet. Alright, let’s do this,” he tweeted Monday, in a thread that went viral.
Morris, a web developer, claimed he and a friend bought an old van for the road trip and found a “perfectly shrink wrapped brick” under the engine cover.
“I thought it was coke, so I cut open a bit of the corner, put some on my finger, and rubbed it on my gums,” he wrote.
Morris said he then sold the kilo. When the son of the van’s previous owner supposedly asked to buy it back, Morris duped him into thinking the heroin was still there by sticking a foil-wrapped copy of a book under the engine hood.
Morris purportedly realized he’d made a grave mistake when his “weed man” stopped by and pointed out that he’d publicly admitted to stealing from MS-13.
‘”Did you actually just casually throw out how you robbed MS-13?”‘ the dealer allegedly said to Morris, adding that the gang wouldn’t just kill him, but make the torture “last for six f***ing hours.”
Morris started a GoFundMe page on Friday and claimed he is pondering a move to a “treehouse in Germany.”
“’I got a book called ‘How To Disappear,’ and suffice to say, disappearing isn’t cheap,” he wrote.
He’d raised $160 of his $20,000 goal as of Saturday morning. GoFundMe won’t pay out to Morris unless he can prove he plans to use the cash “for its intended use,” the Daily Beast reported.
