Elizabeth Real, 30, from Croydon, south London, was driving at around 7.20am when another car veered across the central reservation and into her path.
She lost consciousness during the impact and woke up in a hospital with multiple injuries.
“We now, however, find ourselves in a situation in which the daily costs are mounting up to an astronomical amount which my parents are struggling to afford.
"The insurance which should cover the healthcare costs will take time to come through and there are complications which may result in a landmark legal case in the states.”
Elizabeth's family have set up a GoFundMe to raise money for costs as there is a delay in the insurance arriving.
