Family says doc told teen he had ‘bad flu’ before he died of possible coronavirus

A “very healthy” teenager has died in London of coronavirus-like symptoms — a day after a doctor told him he “didn’t have to worry about that bad flu,” according to his family.

Italian-born cook Luca Di Nicola, 19, had “a fever and a cough” for a week before his death Tuesday, symptoms also suffered by his mother and her partner who the teen lived with in north London, La Repubblica said.

They were never tested but believe they were all infected with the coronavirus, the family said.

Di Nicola was initially told to take acetaminophen by a doctor who eventually came out to see him when his condition deteriorated, his aunt, Giada, told the Italian newspaper.

“The doctor visited him at home and told him that he was young, strong and that he didn’t have to worry about that bad flu,” the aunt said, according to Metro UK.

His condition deteriorated further on Tuesday, and — after his lips turned purple — he collapsed at home, his aunt said. He was raced to North Middlesex Hospital’s ICU but died at 7 p.m. that day, she said.

His lungs were full of blood and water, and his death was initially deemed from pneumonia.

Di Nicola’s loved ones are now awaiting post-mortem test results to see if he had COVID-19 — and worrying for his mother, Clarissa, and her partner, Vincenzo, both of whom are still sick and self-isolating.
